EMIL NGOIndependence Day
Every 15th August, Emil NGO celebrates Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor. Our children participate in flag hoisting ceremonies, cultural programs, and patriotic song performances. We organize drawing and essay competitions on themes of freedom and national pride. Students learn about freedom fighters and India’s independence struggle through interactive sessions. Special treats and sweets are distributed to all children. The celebration instills values of patriotism, national unity, and pride in being Indian citizens who will shape the country’s future.
National Youth Day
On 12th January, we celebrate National Youth Day commemorating Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary. This day focuses on inspiring our children and young volunteers with Swami Vivekananda’s teachings about character, strength, and service to humanity. We organize motivational talks, discussion sessions, and youth competitions including debates, speeches, and talent shows. Students learn about Swami Vivekananda’s message of self-confidence and social service. The event recognizes young volunteers who’ve contributed significantly to Emil NGO’s activities, encouraging youth leadership and community service among the younger generation.
Story Telling Competition
Our annual Story Telling Competition is one of the most anticipated events at Emil NGO. Children from all age groups participate, showcasing their creativity, imagination, and public speaking skills. Stories range from traditional folk tales to original creations reflecting their dreams and experiences. This competition helps build confidence, improve language skills, and develop storytelling abilities. Judges include teachers, volunteers, and guest educators who encourage every participant. Winners receive prizes and certificates, but every child gains valuable experience. The event celebrates children’s voices and imaginations while creating joyful memories.
Pandal Hopping During Durga Puja
Durga Puja is Bengal’s biggest festival, and Emil NGO ensures our children don’t miss this religious & cultural celebration. We organize pandal hopping trips where children visit beautifully decorated Durga Puja pandals across the city. For many street children, this is their first experience of organized festive celebration. They witness artistic creations, enjoy cultural performances, and receive new clothes for the occasion. We provide festive meals and sweets, sharing the joy of Bengal’s most beloved festival. These outings create cherished memories and give underprivileged children experiences they’d otherwise never have.
Christmas Day
Christmas brings joy and warmth to Emil NGO as we celebrate this festival of love and giving with all children, regardless of their religious backgrounds. Our center is decorated with Christmas trees, lights, and colorful ornaments created by children themselves. We organize carol singing, Christmas stories, and fun games. A special surprise comes when volunteers dress as Santa Claus, distributing gifts, sweets, and new clothes to every child. The celebration emphasizes values of sharing, kindness, and universal brotherhood, making every child feel special and loved during this festive season.
World Environment Day
On 5th June, Emil NGO celebrates World Environment Day with meaningful activities that teach children about environmental responsibility. We organize tree plantation drives where children plant saplings and commit to nurturing them. Educational sessions cover topics like pollution, recycling, and climate change in age-appropriate ways. Children participate in creative competitions including poster making, eco-friendly craft, and best-from-waste competitions. Clean-up drives are conducted in nearby areas. Through these activities, we instill environmental consciousness, teaching our children that protecting nature is everyone’s responsibility for future generations.
Rabindra Jayanti
Celebrating Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary on 25th Baisakh (May), Rabindra Jayanti holds special significance in Bengali culture. Emil NGO commemorates this day with cultural programs featuring Rabindra Sangeet performances, dance dramas, and recitations of Tagore’s poems and stories. Children learn about Tagore’s contributions to literature, education, and social reform. We organize drawing competitions with themes from Tagore’s works. Traditional Bengali sweets are distributed, and the venue is decorated with alpana and marigold flowers. This celebration connects children with Bengal’s rich cultural heritage and Tagore’s timeless wisdom.
